Latin Tutor Taipei. I Have taught both at NTU (DFLL) for twenty-two years (writing, conversation, Latin-all levels, negotiations advanced grammar and conversation all levels); at NTULC for 30 years taught very advanced writing e.g. English Composition Toolbox, Advanced Writing Style (Based on Ten Lessons In Clarity and Grace), Academic Writing For Graduate Students, Advanced Grammar. Have been tutoring for 30 years, mainly adults. I am looking for face-to-face students in Taipei wanting to study Latin. I use Wheelock's Latin 7th ed. and the Wheelock system also including Scribblers, Sculptors and Scribes as well as 38 Latin Stories. Discover how this beautiful language can help you improve your English. Latin grammar is similar to English grammar but without the exceptions. Many jobs require Latin such as archives, medieval research, anything in the Catholic church, marketing(every product name comes from Latin or Greek. 90% of more formal words in English come from Latin i.e. the words used in academic writing. You can guess the meaning of new words if you are familiar with Latin prefixes and suffixes. Since Latin is a literary language you don't need to devote any time to conversation. Within 30 minutes of the first class you will be translating Roman literature, philosophy, history etc. Latin is a great intellectual challenge. If you are a problem solver-if you like solving puzzles, Latin is right for you. You need to be able to discipline yourself to apply rules in a focused way.When applying to the top five universities in the world, they know that if you took Latin, you did not have an easy time of it. You are more likely to get in. With the increase in grade inflation, this should be important to every student. Also, the ideas forming the basis of Western culture come from the ancient Greeks and Romans. Latin can expose you to these. Latin is interdisciplinary-you will be exposed to every area of Roman society, not just the language. Finally, check it out on the internet that Latin students do better on standardized tests than any other group. For example. on the TOEIC they score almost 200 higher than any other group.
